After doing an overlook general anime of 2018, I might as well do a more specific look at what were the best anime episodes of last year. What I put into count are the direction, animation, adaptation of the source material, and of course my enjoyment watching it.
Notice: Again this list isn’t in any particular order. And of course, episodes I haven’t watched will not be in this list.

Katsuhiro Takagi (高木勝弘)
Chengxi Huang (黄成希)
This episode is the proof that when you gather a team of talented young people and a newcomer talented director who has being an all-time fan of the Naruto franchise, amazing things can happen. Between some personal touch of Chengxi Huang and some references to the previous serious, he had an awesome adaptation who even topped against all the odds the Boruto movie adaptation.
Violet Evergarden #10
Episode Director, Storyboard: Taichi Ogawa
Animation Direction: Nobuaki Maruki
Fumio Tada (Yoshiji Kigami)
When you have an episode of an emotional show, that is praised to fans and non-fans of the show by being an emotional overload even for least emotional persons, It must be something else…
I must confess I wasn’t the most enthusiastic fan of Violet Evergarden episodic story or the main character journey of finding the meaning of love, but what put this episode aside from the rest was the building of an emotional story leading to a heartbreaking ending that was impossible to be touched by.
Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu (2nd Season) #19
Storyboard: Ryuta Yanagi
Episode Direction: Maruyama Yusuke, Tomoya Tanaka
Chief Animation Direction: Kento Toya
Animation Direction: Kento Toya, Eri Ogawa, Aya Akizuki, Akane Sakamoto, Mariko Komatsu, Chiaki Naruzumi
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Nanatsu no Taizai Season 2 direction nor animation but this episode set to become the best one yet. An action-packed and well-directed episode who portrayed the peak of the season by making the clash between Meliodas and all of the commandments in the best way possible.
Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season #49
Storyboard: Shinji Ishihira
Episode Director: Setsumu Dogawa
Chief Animation Direction: Takahiro Komori
Animation Direction: Takahiro Komori, Takashi Mitani
Animation Direction Assistant: Nobuhiko Kawakami, Yuka Shibata
Episode 49 of My hero set to be as the creator himself Kōhei Horikoshi said, the climax of the series so far.
The entire episode was made in a spectacular way to best portrait the end of the road for the number 1 symbol of peace and the set of his successor.
Storyboard / Director: Shinpei Ezaki
Assistant general director: Kazuo Watanabe
Action animator: Shokudo Tokumaru, Kazunori Hashimoto
Tadami Tokumaru Teruaki
I could mention episode 12 as well but this, in particular, did what most of the series couldn’t portrait a realistic battle of ideals between two fierce rivals. The direction and animation all were near perfect in this fantastic and emotional final match.
- Darling in the Franxx #13
This episode sets apart from the rest, depicting an emotional backstory of the two protagonists in a so gentle and kind way.
